1. What are Jubilee Dance Floor tiles made of?
The dance floor tiles are a composite of several materials. But for simplicity's sake, the top dancing surface is a lightweight plastic material. The bottom layer is a shock-absorbing rubber. A super-strong, extra thin Velcro wraps around the perimeter of each panel allowing the tiles to connect to each other. And you get all this for approximately 5.5 lbs. per tile - which means even a child can carry several tiles or put their own practice floors together without adult help.
2. Are Jubilee Dance Floor Tiles truly shock-absorbing?
Yes, as well as being sprung. The rubber material is manufactured specifically for shock-absorption and has excellent "recovery" which means that it won't sap your energy but return it to you.
3. Can I use Jubilee Dance Floor over carpet?
Jubilee floor tiles are designed for use over hard unforgiving surfaces only (e.g. concrete, tile, hardwood, brick, etc.) We do not recommend them for use over home carpeting which is generally too plush or spongy for good seam connection without taping or the use of a subfloor such as plywood or Masonite. While they have been used over some hotel carpets and unpadded indoor-outdoor carpeting, we cannot recommend them for regular use like this. Due to the flexible nature of the tiles, used heavily over carpet, one could also run the risk of cracking the tiles prematurely from an excessive "trampoline" effect (though this is repairable.)
If you have an occasional event (performance, dance-out, etc.) where you need to use the tiles and there is only carpeted space available, we would recommend you take a roll of tape (duct, gaffer's, etc.) to have on hand in the event the carpet proves too plush for good seam connection. Simply tape the perimeter of the entire floor or over the top seams for added insurance. The tape will not hurt the tiles and is easily removed.
4. May I use Jubilee Dance Floor as a permanent floor?
Yes. Jubilee tiles can be used as a permanent “floating” floor or they can be secured to the subfloor to prevent any long-term shifting. This should be done with one of the following methods:
Build a frame around the perimeter and screw/nail the frame to the subfloor.
Use an adhesive to glue the tiles to the subfloor.
Block the floor against interior walls.
5. How large can I make a floor?
Theoretically as large as you want as all these tiles interconnect, although you may need to implement one or more of the suggestions above for optimal performance. However, these floor tiles were designed primarily for small-scale home & studio use only and therefore we cannot guarantee the long-term results of floors larger than 10' x 10' (when used over recommended surfaces) or ANY floor size over non-recommended surfaces (carpet, grass, etc.). 6. You say Jubilee Dance Floor floor tiles are interconnecting. How?
The perimeters of all tiles are edged with a special super-thin, industrial strength Velcro that allows each tile to connect instantly with one another simply by pushing them together. (More assembly instructions)
7. So there's a seam with Jubilee Dance Floor?
Yes, but it's very negligible at approximately 1/8" wide. This seam is tight vertically and horizontally and due to the fact that the floor is only 1/2 inch thick, there is equal seam flexing when used over hard surfaces.
8. How does Jubilee Dance Floor sound for hard-shoe/tap dancing?
Great! We have had nothing but positive feedback on that account. The sound is definitely sharp and clear but will not deafen the dancer or the neighbors like plywood often can.
9. Are Jubilee Dance Floors slippery?
Each customer will have a different preference when it comes to traction (or grip) on a floor surface. Jubilee tiles have proven quite versatile to most customers in that respect. Occasionally, though, we do get asked for tips on how to make the surface “slicker” or “stickier”
To make your tiles feel more slippery, you can apply Armor-All to the surface; though this will be fairly permanent. To increase traction, here are several options:
Add a small piece of duct tape to the bottom of your shoes.
Lightly mist the floor with water (for use with suede- or soft leather-sole shoes only).
Put rosin on the tiles (violin, dance or baseball rosin). The rosin needs to be rubbed into the dancing surface to bond to it. This works best if it is applied in powder form. (Crush it if it comes in chunks.) Rub into each tile well then wipe the excess rosin dust away with a slightly damp cloth. Rosin may need to be reapplied at intervals depending on usage. It can also be removed from the tiles at any point by scrubbing with hot, soapy water. Whatever hard surface your Jubilee tiles cover (e.g. hardwood floors), periodically clean it (again with hot, soapy water) to remove any rosin residue that may have accumulated from usage.
Even with the above tips, certain situations can make any floor slippery. Dust and dirt for one. Simply wipe Jubilee floor tiles with a damp mop or cloth to remove this. Also, new shoes may slip until the tips and soles are broken in (e.g. Irish hardshoes). There are also certain brands of hardshoe tips which leave a residue (like black marks on your kitchen floor) and after a period of time can build up to cover the natural traction of the surface. But this is also easily remedied. (Further tips on cleaning).
And remember, changing the type of surface you dance on will most likely require a brief adjustment period for everyone.
10. Are there discounts for large orders of Jubilee Dance Floor?

11. How long can I expect Jubilee Dance Floor to last?
This question is completely dependent on two things: first, the care you give your floor tiles when handling and secondly, how hard and often you use them.
While these floor tiles do resist breaking, and splintering they are not indestructible and should be handled with some care. Taking extra care when moving, carrying or storing will ensure a long life for your product. The tiles are temporarily weakened when exposed to freezing temperatures. However, they are restored to full durability once above the freezing point. Also, just like any plastic, extreme heat can distort them unless they are kept flat (the extreme heat, for instance, of leaving black tiles in the broiling summer sun for hours or closed up in a car on a hot day) will void all warranties to this product.
As for wear under the unusual duress of Irish hardshoe dancing, you can again increase the life expectancy by periodically shifting the panels (or at least your dancing direction) so that no one tile receives excessive wear. Just like a sidewalk that will last years with countless people walking over it, a few minutes with a jack-hammer is all it takes to break the concrete. Similarly, due to the intense nature of Irish hardshoe dancing, too much for prolonged periods in one spot on a tile may have the same effect.
Also the structure of this material allows for some point compression (another level of shock-absorption). This means you should expect the surface to dent and ding when dancing in taps or hard shoes, just like a hardwood floor. *Should your tiles ever get damaged, Jubilee has instructions to assist you in repairing them.

12. How Many Jubilee Dance Floor Tiles Do I Need?
This is our most frequently asked question. The answer...it's completely up to you. How much space do you have? How much do you want? What's your budget? What is the age and level of the dancer? How many will be using the floor at one time? When it comes to space for dance or exercise, everyone's needs are going to vary.

13. Do you have a guarantee on Jubilee Dance Floor tiles?
Jubilee Dance Floor wants you to be 100% satisfied with your purchase. If, within 30 days, you are not satisfied with your purchase from us, we will do anything reasonable to make it right. For assistance with a prompt refund (less shipping), replacement or exchange, please contact Jubilee for return authorization. RETURNS MUST BE SENT IN THE ORIGINAL PACKAGING.
We also guarantee the workmanship on the tiles for one full year. This means should the Velcro dislodge or the layers separate we will either replace the product or offer means of repair.
Since the use of our product is not under our direct supervision, we cannot guarantee any results of use beyond our control. These floor tiles are designed for small-scale home & studio use only and are not designed for outdoors in direct sunlight or on hot surfaces such as black top or asphalt, warping could occur and would void all guarantees and warranties to this product.
